Portsmouth Journalism course voted best in UK for second year running

For the second year running, our journalism degree course was recognised as the best undergraduate university course in the UK by the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) – the industry’s leading training body.

We were awarded ‘Best performing higher education undergraduate course’ at the 2019 NCTJ Awards for Excellence.

We're proud to have won this NCTJ award for the second successive year. It is testament to the hard work and excellent attitude of the students graduating in 2019, as well as the commitment and enthusiasm of the journalism teaching team.

Ian Tapster , Course Leader

Our BA (Hons) Journalism course was highly rated because our students were the most successful in gaining the NCTJ Gold Standard Diploma in 2018-19.

The NCTJ accredits journalism courses across the UK. An NCTJ qualification is widely recognised as the gold standard in journalism in the UK and abroad.

Course leader Ian Tapster said: "We're proud to have won this NCTJ award for the second successive year. It's testament to the hard work and excellent attitude of the students graduating in 2019,  as well as the commitment and enthusiasm of the journalism teaching team."

“The NCTJ Diploma provides graduates with a significant boost to their career prospects and is the key qualification that editors look for when recruiting new professional journalists. The qualification tells employers that graduates possess the vital skills of finding and telling stories in a multi-media environment.”
